FAQ

Q: What is pitch made of?

A: Pitch is a viscoelastic polymer which can be natural or manufactured, derived from petroleum, coal tar, or plants. Various forms of pitch may also be called tar, bitumen, or asphalt. Pitch produced from plants is also known as resin. Some products made from plant resin are also known as rosin.

Q: What is the difference between pitch and asphalt?

A: Tar and pitch are often used interchangeably. However, pitch is considered to be more solid whilst tar is considered to be more liquid. Asphalt Asphalt is a sticky, black and highly viscous liquid or semi solid that is present in crude petroleum and in some natural deposits sometimes termed asphaltum.

Q: What is pitch oil used for?

A: Pitch oil is a by-product obtained by the distillation process of soya acid oil.It is widely used as the base material for black printing inks, soap industry and in various chemical industries as a heating fuel. It is economically priced and tailor-made as per the specification from the customer.

Q: What is pitch liquid used for?

A: Coal-tar pitch is a thick black liquid that remains after the distillation of coal tar. It is used as a base for coatings and paint, in roofing and paving, and as a binder in asphalt products. Both coal tar and coal-tar pitch contain many chemical compounds, including carcinogens such as benzene.

Q: What is the difference between pitch and resin?

A: Also known as “pitch”, tree resin is thicker, tackier, and darker than tree sap. Deciduous trees do not make resin; it is only produced by trees that belong to the Pinaceae family, such as pine, fir, and cedar. Resin forms in the outer cells of the trees, also known as the inner and outer bark.
